First Lady and Cancer Survivor
Mount Sinai Pentecostal Church Inc.
Griselda E. Silva, born in Durango, Mexico and raised in the United States, is one of 11 siblings who grew up navigating a mixture of cultures. As a full-time employee in healthcare and a community leader, she dedicates her time to coaching and guiding women, helping them overcome personal struggles and find balance in life. By giving them the tools and motivation they need to overcome any personal struggle. To encourage them to be that parent, wife, woman, sister and friend. To find balance within. To honor themselves as much as they honor others.
In July 2021, Griselda received the life-changing diagnosis of stage 3 endometrial cancer. The weight of the news was overwhelming, and one of her hardest struggles was finding the strength to tell her husband. As she began treatment, she quickly discovered that even the most basic parts of her daily routine became difficult — many of her hygiene products were too harsh for her sensitive skin, and the clothes and undergarments she once wore no longer offered the comfort she needed. On top of that, her specialist put her on a new diet that came with significant and unexpected costs.
Despite undergoing two years of aggressive radiation and chemotherapy — treatments that left her exhausted and emotionally drained — Griselda had no choice but to continue working between to maintain her medical coverage and employment. But even in the midst of her own battle, her dedication to serving others never wavered. She remained deeply committed to her work with the women’s group and community outreach, drawing strength from the very connections she helped build.
It was in this time of hardship her sisters rallied around her. They showed up with love — offering financial support, essential supplies, and anything else she needed. Through their care, Griselda experienced the true power of sisterhood, and it gave her a new understanding of both vulnerability and resilience.
As word of her journey spread, others battling cancer began to take notice. They wanted to know how she found such strength and peace in the face of overwhelming challenges. They wanted to share in the faith that carried her through. Griselda reached out once again to her sisters, and together they extended their support to those who asked for help — creating a ripple effect of hope and compassion.
Griselda’s fight against cancer has only deepened her resolve to lift others up. Her story is a testament to the power of perseverance, faith, and community — a reminder that even in our darkest moments, love and sisterhood can light the way.
